This great old brick building, overlooking the city, had seen a long history and had a number of additions over the years. It was time for all the additions and 'add-ons' to be tied together, extended, resolved, and given a new character.
The front and rear facades were created to bind the disjointed existing facades together with a solid visual rhythm to bring the home into harmony. We saw it as the next generation of the same building, yet with a new vigour (almost like the grandchildren of the grand old parent building!).
Rather than demolishing large sections of the old house, a really well-designed renovation and extension of this type has proven to be very cost rational in the value it brings to the home and the family who live in it. This home is the ultimate form of recycling/upcycling with a deep respect for the past.
